For this assignment, I ask you to put together a montage of still images with music. Some of you may want to get fancy and add a layer of narration or sound effects. That would be cool, but not required. You could think of Ken Burns, The Civil War, where the use of historical photos helps recount a time/place/set of events that is long gone. Or the Notre Dame sequence in Man on Wire, where music and image and narration recreate a powerful moment.
You can choose your images from your own photographs or from online images. Don’t worry – for this assignment – about copyright. Beware of iMovie’s automatic Ken Burns effectThe same for music. You can use commercial music – or, much better – the links to Creative Commons music on our links page. Try to find music and images that work well together.
Keep it short: 30 to 60 seconds would be great. Work on pacing and movement to help create an emotional impact. Above all, this is a chance to work with IMovie to learn the techniques of using still images with audio.
When you are done, upload your film to OneDrive and share with me – then post link to the Moodle assignment.
